As
the proverbial dust settled from the weekend's activities,
crews arrived back at Protec's offices to download
volumes of inspection, vibration and photographic
data. The following days brought a procession of debriefings,
project assessments and performance reviews. Formal
engineering reports were prepared for various clients
and municipal authorities, vibration data was entered
into the firm's blasting database for future vibration-prediction
calculations, videotapes were edited, high resolution
photographs were printed, and equipment in need of
repair was tended to.
Most
of the team then grabbed a well deserved rest or worked
on local projects in New York or New Jersey for a
few days, then it was back to preparing for more road
trips. Over the following weekend, NADC-members Dykon
Explosive Demolition and Chicago Explosive Services
would fell a Florida power plant and an Illinois bridge
respectively, and Demtech would blast another structure
in West Virginia.
For
local residents and community officials in these towns,
the events would provide more unprecedented thrills
and topics of conversation for years to come. However,
for the demolition contractors involved and the team
at Protec, it was just another weekend at the office.
